(born March 22, 1924)
American businessman, author, columnist and: founder of USA today, The Freedom forum and Newseum.
USA today was the most widely read newspaper in 1982.
to help spread USA today, an appealing bus was created:
Neuharth bought himself a $350,000 Blue Bird Wanderlodge bus outfitted with every amenity, including leather swivel chairs and cellular phones. Then he hired a staff of young journalists of inoffensive good looks, and a bus driver named Joel Driver, who owned an auto repair shop in Byron, Ga., and seemed enterprising, like Neuharth. Then he had his bus painted with the USA logo and outfitted with a horn that blared out renditions of On The Road Again and songs for every state, like Georgia on my Mind. Then they all hit the road for six months, bound for all 50 states.
Just to put in perspective of what kind of guy he was: think DIFFERENT from Ted Turner
although both business men looking to spread and advertise for people's interests, they had different intentions. Ted Turner was very charitable and looked at the spread of news and advertising would help benefit the knowledge, security and safety of the people. While Allen Neuharth was more focused on the money aspect and benefits of the job. For example he said: "Early on I gave up any thought of sports or extracurricular activities. I was determined to make money. By the time I reached college I realized I didn't give a damn about anything but journalism. "

The Internet
The map on the right is from February 1982. It is the TCP/IP test network map. What the Internet is, is a link that bridges all networks together. It was officially implemented in 1982 based on standardized protocols. The Internet unified all separate networks such as NPL and UUCP.
The Internet opened up these networks to commerce. The money earned by opening up to commercial activity was enough for the networks to lower their prices and allow schools to participate in more research.
The biggest application of the Internet is E-mail. For the first time people could communicate instantly through their computers. This allowed the spread of news to be more rapid.
CNN-1980
CNN (Cable News Network) began in 1980, with Ted Turner. The first televised broadcast was by Turner himself, on Sunday, June 1, 1980 at 5PM. This is when 24-hour news began.
After his father committed suicide, Turner found himself in charge of the family advertising business. However, he began to see that advertising was more successful on radio and television. Journalism was coming from all different areas.

This article is about a television broadcast from 2004 entitled "Feeding the Beast: The 24-Hour News Revolution" discusses the start of CNN:
"twenty-four-hour news became a reality in 1980 when Ted Turner, who is not a scholar but certainly no dope, dedicated the new CNN headquarters in Atlanta. Anchor Bernard Shaw tells Ellerbee that carpenters were still carpenting and roofers still roofing when CNN lurched into existence. Painters could be seen on the air, working in the background during telecasts from the newsroom."
